THE SIGHTING

THE SIGHTING written by Skye Young illustrated by Skye Young edited by Skye Young
“A squid that lives on land!” Reported John Mcliff. “Deep in the bush lives a colourful cyclops and who knows how many more there are?” “Or if they’re dangerous or not?” The monstrous squid was found on the 24th of May 1948 in the stormy west coast. But kept a secret from the media until now. No one was with John at the time when the photograph was taken, so no one believed him until they saw his photos. In the picture ‘it’ was perched on a fallen pine tree accompanied by a grey bird and a small mouse. He said “as soon as it saw the flash of the camera it disappeared into the thick bush. Never to be seen again. Even 70 years later detectives are still searching for clues in hope of finding the RAINBOW-ONE-EYED-AMPHIBIAN-SQUID!

The King Of Winter

It was the time of 1,000, but the story I will be telling is set in 400 BC, So sit back get some snacks and enjoy the ride. ‘The King Of Winter’ I shall call myself, that's what I thought as I walked upon the sea of ice. My long coat dragging along the frozen water and the cane, the cane I hadn’t seen in years, sitting on the frosty throne. My home was the crystallized snow and the polar bears, turtles and penguins, they had been my family for years, until the avalanche. More about the cane, this is what we’re here for right? I could turn anything stone cold, translation; frozen, only with the cane of course, but what I didn’t know was all that glory came danger , that's what caused the avalanche, I was very anxious to leave my only home because I knew that I couldn't take the animal’s with me. Now, being back here, I couldn't see any of the animals here, so I decided to look, I found frosty, (the Polar Bear) and together we hopped on a large shard of ice and sailed off to land.

the unloved town...

11/9/18

I knew this crooked town was haunted since I first moved here. This was not your usual stroll down the road at lunchtime, it was midnight. Graffiti blanketed the rusted locks on rotted wooden doors and windows, the skinny street made me feel claustrophobic. I felt like this place always had a breeze but it had seemed I forgot, because when a garbage can blowed over I actually felt the color draining from my sorrow face. And when a crushed Coca Cola can brushed my ankle I thought I jumped out of my skin and ran as fast as I could to a FAAAAR away land. But surprise surprise, I was stuck in an ancient suburb, possibly with ghosts et il n'y a pas moyen de sortir … Oh no I did it again! Sorry I didn’t mention I am French, ok enough about me, after all I am in a creepy abandoned town! The silver concrete was a little wet so I had to steady myself a couple times. I could definitely feel an evil presence in this unknown street. It felt like a thousand eyes were watching me tiptoe in the moss. And then it all went black...

CAN YOU IMAGINE THE IMAGE IN YOUR MIND? CHECK MY NEXT POST AND SEE IF YOU WERE CLOSE!

Cassidy

Cassidy

4/9/18

Fiery red hair flows down to the ground, with a pastel pink Frangipani pinning her luscious fringe back from her pale face.

Cassidy’s muddy brown eyes twinkle in the golden sun though her black glasses slip down her face when she looks at her shiny bare feet. Her full peach coloured lips pucker when she puts her shiny lipgloss on.

A white fluffball of a cat (named Twinkles) hangs lazily from Cassy’s right arm.

7/9/18

A Kea would love to steel Cassidy’s shiny pink orange and yellow speckled earrings.
She has a snow white singlet and deep blue denim jeans that are tight on her tiny legs.
Cassy is a very joyful person but is always on alert and is forever ready for whatever anyone throws at her.

DAD!

MY AMAZING DAD

My dad has sky blue eyes and a shiny bald head. He is medium height and in the summer he has tan colored skin. He is very hairy and likes wearing bare feet because he says “Feet need to absorb the earth”.

He acts funny and speaks goofily. He takes his time when he walks but when he is in a hurry you can tell that he is stressed because he walks fast, like when he’s late for work.

My dad is an incredible woodwork teacher at Mairehau high school. But he also loves to surf… The reason I love surfing is because of him 😁. I also got my blonde hair from him

(except as you can see his hair didn’t last long😁)

He is a loving dad and always helps me when I’m hurt. He always sees the best in people and he is very chilled. But I would definitely call him a chatterbox. Whenever he walks into a room it suddenly turns joyful and full of laughter.

He has a giant red surfboard with a hand with an eye on it. He is also the proud owner of a group called Team Pozitive (aka team pozzi) just saying I’m in it too😁

Bearyl The Tree

My Favourite Place:

Bearyl The Tree…

Bearyl the tree is as tall as a mountain, and her bark is like sandpaper. When I lie in her it is very peaceful and I can see lots of brick houses from up top. This tree is special because she was here since North New Brighton!

We love climbing her because she has so many twisted branches. Sometimes that’s a bad thing because she also has millions of pointy twigs that sometimes poke us in not very pleasant places… Bearyl is very old and mossy so when you climb her you have to be careful where you step. When I climb this tree I hear: children screaming and Fantails singing.

BEARYL IS THE BEST!

Hectors Dolphin

Hector's Dolphin

by Skye Young

Hi there, my name is Skye Young, and I LOVE dolphins! So that's why i wanted to teach you some facts about them. Enjoy!

First of all i wanted to clear that you will ONLY find them in New Zealand . So now that’s out of the way we can get on to the juicy facts . The Hector's dolphin is the smallest dolphin in the world, so it's pretty hard to see, thats why we need to know how to keep them safe. If you ever see one make sure to stop your boat and DO NOT speed off, also don't feed them and be careful with your fishing nets. I guess i’m just trying to say LEAVE THEM BE :). This species of dolphin is endangered so please try to follow these rules when you are fishing/boating. Hector's dolphins are one out of 4 special breeds, and you can find them in Akaroa. I hope you like my story and it inspires you to learn some more about native NZ species.

At the beach

AT THE BEACH

When I get to the beach I see tons of kids swimming and building EXTRAORDINARY sandcastle’s. I’m heading for the ocean but my feet stop walking at the thought of the sore and also hard seaweed, so I decide to collect shells with my ankles in the warm water. The sea was like a raging river except VERY SALTY. Today the wind was cold and breezy like an angry ghost’s breath. I find gazillions of smooth and bumpy shells. After hours spent playing, Surfing and collecting shells we all got hungry so mum got some Fish ’N’ Chips while we watched the sunset.
