ART! 29/11/19

For the past few weeks, Tane Mahuta have been doing art projects.
I think my art turned out so well (in my opinion) because I didn't really have any expectations. although there were a lot of challenges along the way, it was all worth it!
You probably can't see it very well, but the trickiest part was trying to write with paint, 'speed' on the little boat. Or painting the birds, people and dogs because my brush wasn't thin enough.
I also learnt a new technique, painting the clouds with my finger. It was surprisingly more effective and looked nicer instead of if I were to use a brush. (again, in my opinion)
overall, I really enjoyed doing art this year and I'm starting on my second picture now!
P.S I'll use water colour this time!

Octopoems!

An Equestrian

An equestrian is navy blue.
She is the summer
At the Grand Prix.
She is the blazing sun,
An equestrian is a pair of soft, creamy breeches,
A flash horse float.
She is the Palio de siena,
A crispy apple!

An Artist

An artist is multicolored.
She is the Autumn
In a gallery.
She is the mild breeze
An artist is a woolly poncho,
A tall easel.
she is Project Runway,
A crunchy meringue!

Haiku Poems

Winter Haiku

Snowflakes are falling.
Better wear your cozy coat,
the trees need one too!

Dog Haiku

Doggos  are so cute!
They love to chew up your shoes,
And give you kisses!

In the past week, Kathy’s kaiawhina have been doing science with Talei.

We have been learning about ecosystems! We even got to make our own, (as you can see in the pictures.) There needs to be a consumer, a producer and a decomposer.

Consumer: a consumer is something that eats other things. E.g an animal or insect.

Producer: a producer is like an apple tree, it makes its own food instead of finding or hunting it.

Decomposer: a decomposer is something that breaks down something like Fungi or worms.

The equipment I used were;
A clear container
Something that can poke holes through the lid (I used a drill, be sure to ask an adult to help )
Stones
Soil (use gloves when handling soil)
Seeds or a plant
Snails
Worms
Food and water for the snails and worms

THANKS FOR READING 😁

BONUS!!!
My snails names are: Mr Krabbs (biggest one) Turbo (small one) Houdini (hiding)

Marble Run

Marble Run

Today Kathy's kaiawhina did a challenge with Nicole (or Miss J.) we had to make a marble run out of; 6 pieces of newsprint, 2 sheets of A4  paper and 2 meters of cellar-tape. It had to stand on its own (without the help of any furniture) and roll at least 3 meters.

It took us about 1/2 an hour to make and in the end it was worth it. There were a few muck ups but we did really well in the race with nearly 5 meters!

next time I would make the whole structure stronger and make the second tube wider instead of it fitting inside the first one making the marble get stuck in the middle. other than that I wouldn't change anything!

Maybe we didn't come 1st but we had so much fun and thats what counts!

KIDS TEACH

Kids teach is a way for children to teach other kids things that they enjoy.

You start by choosing a topic, collecting the materials (if needed) and teaching it to the class.

I was a learner and in Meg and Isla's dancing group. It was really fun learning the shake it off dance. Although sometimes Jasmine got a bit angry. Other than that it was awesome.

The only thing I would change is I wish Lily and I could have done our making bracelets and key chains.

KAKAPO

This is the Kakapo, a giant, flightless New Zealand parrot that can weigh up to 4 kilos.(the world's heaviest bird) It is nocturnal although sometimes comes out just before dusk. It can also live for more than 100 years!

Our famous ground dwelling parrot looks a lot like the Kea (another NZ native bird.) It has bright green and yellow feathers, grey beak and feet.

The Kakapo lives in New Zealand forests and climbs trees instead of flying, hence being the world's heaviest bird.

As it states in the last paragraph, the Kakapo climbs trees to get food. Speaking of food, its favourite thing to munch on are the seeds from the Rimu tree.

The Kakapos Latin name translates to something like; owl face soft feathers. And it does have very soft feathers and an owl like appearance.

Camp at Waipara Adventure Center reflection!

CAMP!!!

My favourite activity was air rifles because it was easy to hit things and it was cool because I’d never done it before.

I challenged myself with popping balloons in archery because everyone had already popped at least 1 balloon and I hadn't. In the end I popped lots though.

I made a connection with Isla because when we were reading at night we both said we loved Stacy Greggs’ books.

My favourite meal was on Wednesday night, I had veggies and a vegetarian patty (which I did not like) but the baby carrots were so juicy and probably the best veggies I’ve had! My favourite dessert was the apple crumble on Thursday.

When I got home I watched a movie on my bed.
